Applications are invited for membership of the Adventure Activities Industry Advisory Committee (AAIAC) to replace members who recently completed their 6-year terms. AAIAC is the sector’s lead independent body for safety in adventure activities. It is representative of a wide range of stakeholders from the UK adventure activities sector.
In this round of recruitment AAIAC is seeking to ensure that its membership reflects all geographical areas of the UK as well as the diversity of the Outdoor Sector.
It delivers:
- Safety Accreditation: taking a coordinating role in safety accreditation of adventurous activity and managing, developing and growing Adventuremark.
- Representation: being a contact point for Government across the UK Nations and other agencies in the areas of safety, risk management and good practice.
- Guidance: being a point of contact for all stakeholders, sharing good practice, developing standards and guidance
Members of AAIAC are selected from all areas of the sector. They serve for a 3 year term renewable for a second 3 years. In addition, the committee has observers, for example from HSE and AALS. AAIAC also co-opts individuals to help its work on specific topics.
AAIAC is accountable to Adventure UK, which meets 3 times a year to receive an report and to provide direction, guidance and support on its strategic plan. Adventure UK consists of representatives from the following organisations:

- Young Explorers’ Trust
The appointed people will serve for a period of three years, with members eligible for re-appointment for a further three years.
All members of AAIAC offer their services on a voluntary basis. Work of the committee will be carried out by video conferencing, email communication, phone and occasional face-to-face meetings. There are usually 3 meetings per year. Please note that no funds are currently available to reimburse travel expenses to attend AAIAC meetings but we do support members representing AAIAC at other meetings.
